Our Annual Community Medical Camp & Telehealth Initiative
Access to quality healthcare should not be a privilege. For residents of informal settlements like Mukuru kwa Njenga, barriers like poverty and limited infrastructure often stand in the way of essential medical care. The Rotary Club of Milimani is changing this narrative through our flagship Annual Community Medical Camp—a cornerstone of our commitment to disease prevention and maternal health.
Why This Project Matters
In underserved communities, preventable illnesses often go untreated due to a lack of specialists and resources. Our initiative doesn't just provide a one-day clinic; it builds a bridge to long-term health.
- Targeting the Vulnerable: We focus on women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities in Mukuru kwa Njenga and surrounding areas. This simple act saves lives.
- Proven Impact: Every previous medical camp we organized at the same venue has attracted hundreds of deserving beneficiaries, the highest being about 900 in 2019.
The Innovation: A Hybrid Model of Care
We have evolved beyond one-off medical camps. Our project combines the immediate surge of a physical camp with the sustainable power of technology.
The Annual Medical Camp
Held every first Saturday of April, this event serves as a massive outreach for:
- General check-ups and common condition treatments.
- Specialized services: Dental care, eye screenings, and counseling.
- Maternal health: Pregnancy testing and referrals.
Telehealth Continuity Program
To ensure no patient is left behind after the camp ends, the Mary Immaculate Health Clinic at St. Catherine’s Comprehensive School serves as a permanent telehealth hub.
- Follow-up Care: Patients receive year-round consultations via telehealth.
- Specialist Access: We leverage a global network of volunteer specialists to provide expert advice remotely.
Strategic Partnership
We seek long-term institutional partners to help us scale this hybrid model of care. Whether through CSR funding or technical expertise, your organization can help us create a replicable healthcare delivery model for all informal settlements.
Areas of partnership and support include:
- Provision of medical and healthcare services
- Deployment of medical professionals and expert staff
- Financial support
- Donation of medical equipment and supplies
- Tent & Chairs
- Transport and logistics
- Foodstuffs for volunteers and milk/snacks for children who are brought for medication
- Any other form of support you may deem appropriate
